Once UI joins the Neon Open Source Program

Neon now supports Once UI, and Once UI Stack gets a Postgres option to match - one flag gives a new app a Neon database, and the AI chat can answer with Claude through Neon AI Gateway.

What we built with Claude for Open Source
Once UI is part of Anthropic's Claude for Open Source program, and it has changed how this project gets built. Since mid-August, Claude has co-written 972 of the 1,124 commits across our four busiest repositories. This post is a thank-you, and a look at what that work shipped.

A year of commits

For most of the last year, Once UI moved at the pace of a very small team: about 50 commits a month across core, Stack, once-ui.com and Frametic. The first commits with Claude as a co-author landed in July. By October the same team made 576 commits in a month, and 569 of them were written with Claude. From 13 August to 31 October, these are the commits on main and preview that carry Claude as a co-author:

Claude does the typing and the checking; the direction still comes from us. More commits is not the goal in itself. What matters is what they shipped.

What shipped

Seven core releases in a month. Once UI 2.0 shipped on 25 September and 2.6 on 25 October. In between came chat components, forms and mobile fixes, AI app building blocks, reactions, maps, scoped themes and the Mascot that turns into a cube while your agent works. A React Native preview went out alongside them. The 3.0 beta. 3.0 is a breaking cleanup that makes the API say one thing one way: value, defaultValue and onValueChange everywhere, CSS layers, our own SVG chart renderer in place of recharts, and a migrate command that rewrites your code for you. A design system agents can read. Core now ships an MCP server, an llms.txt and a component catalog that agents read in one pass. That is the point of the whole project: a design system that people and coding agents can both build production apps with. Once UI Stack. An app scaffolder that assembles only what you ask for: a landing page, dashboard, docs, store, AI chat, API product, teams and billing, with mobile and desktop shells.

More people are building with it
Monthly npm downloads of @once-ui-system/core went from 5,561 in November 2025 to 35,540 in October. Downloads count installs, including CI machines, not people, and we can't say how much of the rise comes from the faster release pace. But the line started climbing in the same months the releases did.

Why it matters for an open-source project

Once UI is maintained by a very small team. Work that used to wait months for a free weekend now ships in a week, with tests and docs written in the same pass. The program is a big part of why the free half of Once UI keeps getting better.
